A Meat Market at 4159 West Broadway Since 1891
The History of Hackenmueller’s Meat Market
Hackenmueller’s Meat Market operates from one of the longest-running commercial storefronts in Robbinsdale. The meat market at 4159 West Broadway traces back to 1891, when the local shop was purchased and operated under early ownership that helped establish it as a neighborhood staple.
Over the decades, the shop served as more than a place to buy meat, it was part of the rhythm of the community: familiar faces, trusted
quality, and a reputation built over generations.
The Urban and Hoffman Years (Late 1800s – 1960)
Historical accounts from the Robbinsdale Historical Society describe
the early era of the market and a major transition in the early 1920s.
In 1922, Kurt Hoffman Sr. and his brother Lewis Hoffman purchased the meat market, continuing operations at the same location and carrying the business forward as Robbinsdale grew.
A recent email from Kurt Hoffman’s grandson adds family detail to this
period: he recalls Kurt Hoffman Sr. buying the business from Gus Uban
in the mid-1920s, and the shop being run with family involvement
(including Kurt Jr. and Lewis). He also recalls the sale occurring in
June 1959. (Family note on file from Kurt Hoffman, email received by
Hackenmueller’s.)
Public historical references typically cite 1960 for the Hackenmueller
purchase (see below), so the clean way to present this on the website
is “1959–1960” unless you uncover a bill of sale or newspaper notice
that resolves the exact month/year.

The Hackenmueller Era (1960 – 1980)
Around 1959–1960, Herbert, Harold, and Reinhart Hackenmueller acquired the market and changed the name to Hackenmueller Meats, marking the beginning of the Hackenmueller name at the location.
Under the Hackenmueller family, the shop built the brand that
customers still know today: a traditional butcher counter, house-made
specialties, and a strong relationship with the community.
The Lindenfelser Era (1980 – April 1, 2025)
In 1980, Gordy Lindenfelser purchased the business. He ran the market for more than 45 years, becoming a key figure in the modern identity of the shop and maintaining the standards and service that made it a destination throughout the Twin Cities.

Taste the Tradition Today!
Today: New Ownership, Same Legacy (April1. 2025 – Present)
On April 1, 2025, Ande St. Michael and Dustan Posch took over ownership of Hackenmueller’s Meat Market, continuing operations at the historic West Broadway location.
Today, the focus is straightforward: protect what makes the shop special, support the community that has supported it for generations, and keep the traditions and quality that customers expect — while
investing in the team and the future of the business.
